We wanted to let you know when we will be available for contact while we are on our Mission at the Halifax Temple Mission. It is as follows:
September started out with a trip to Kelowna to celebrate the life of Charles Burns, Kathy’s Mom’s husband. He had passed away after an extended battle with cancer and we received permission from our Temple President (who is also our Mission President) to leave the mission to be with Kathy’s mom and our family. Charlie’s passing occurred just before the scheduled two week semi-annual temple maintenance closing, during which time we have very limited duties and responsibilities at the temple. Charlie will be sadly missed as he was always a wonderful part of our family vacations to Kelowna and our family get-togethers. Fred and Kathy were able to spend a few days with Kathy’s Mom prior to the Celebration of Life and also a few days with our children and grandchildren who were able to make it out to Kelowna to celebrate the life of Grandpa Charlie. All of our children were able to get there except Michelle who had booked a flight to Kelowna, but it was cancelled due to forest fires in th...
Halifax Mission - Month of August 2017 We have been really busy and our weekly blog has become a monthly blog! We have had some wonderful experiences at the temple over the past month. Our temple President, President Veinot, is always very concerned about each patron who comes to the temple and he has added some extra sessions in the past month to accommodate families and groups. One young man that had come to the temple for his first time didn't bring some of the paperwork that was required, so he wasn't able to participate as planned that day. President Veinot made sure that there were some baptisms that he could do and that his parents could go through a session. Then he planned a special session for this young man and his family to accommodate their schedule since the young man was going on a mission 1 ½ weeks later and they had come from PEI which is about a 3 ½ hour drive after crossing the Confederation Bridge, which is costly. We also had a special missionary...
November has been a month of changes here in Halifax. One thing that has changed has been the weather. The leaves have fallen off the trees and it has become cooler. There is often a cold wind that blows and chills us to the bone. But we have also had some beautiful fall days where we have only needed our light coats. We have had very little snow here in Dartmouth – we have only seen a light skiff here two different mornings and it was gone by the afternoon. We did see quite a bit of snow one day when we were out of town in Truro but there wasn’t any here when we got back to our apartment. We weren’t sure if it had snowed and then melted or if it hadn’t snowed in Dartmouth that day. The cold weather has not deterred us from our walks for the most part, although we certainly dress warmer than we did before! Since there is no snow on the ground, we have continued to walk through the woods behind our apartment and enjoy the new season. Fred and Kathy by Bisse...
