Halifax Mission Week 2 July 9-15

Halifax Mission Week Two

Sunday July 9 to Saturday July 15, 2017

On Sunday, we went to our new Ward, the Cole Harbour Ward. They meet at 9:00 AM in the Stake Centre on the other side of the temple from our apartment. It took us about four minutes to walk there. We enjoyed meeting the missionaries and members and they are such a nice, warm people. After supper, we went and dropped a package and a cowboy hat off to Elder Smith who had served in the Cranston Ward (our home ward). His family invited us in but we didn’t want to interrupt their family time and we told them we were planning on going for a walk. They suggested we go to Rainbow Haven at the end of their street. We parked in the parking lot, then started walking down the path. There were lots of beautiful trees there and we could see a lake in the distance. We continued on and came upon the ocean! It was so beautiful and unexpected! That lake that we saw was really an inlet from the ocean! We walked back to our car, then followed a little gravel road around the lake/inlet. It was so beautiful! We didn't know it, but we only live about 15 minutes from the ocean. We are so blessed.

We used this week to help us get organized, both at home and at the Temple. It was a very busy week.
On Monday we went to the Mission home to get all registered and give them copies of our Drivers Licenses and to order our name badges.

Our name badges were made up very quickly locally and so we were able to pick them up that day. Then we felt official as real missionaries.

On Tuesday, we were invited over to Veinot’s (the Temple President and Matron) for dinner. We had dinner and a wonderful evening of visiting with the Veinots, the Randalls, and the Greens. It was so nice to get to know them outside of the temple and I think we will really enjoy working with them! The Presidency consists of President and Sister Veinot, President and Sister Drennan, and President and Sister Green. The other missionary couples are Elder and Sister Randall and Elder and Sister Erchanbrack.

This week was our first full week of working at the temple. There was much for us to learn and we spent many extra hours over at the temple this week, especially Fred since he always gets up early and he spent that time learning systems and procedures at the Halifax Temple. The temple is open on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. On Saturday, we were privileged to be able to work with a sister who was coming to the temple for her first time, and it was fun to be a part of that as we verified her information.
This week, we have also gone on lots of walks around the neighborhood and in the area. On Thursday, we went for a hike on the Salt Marsh Trail. It was part of the TransCanada trail and it was beautiful. The trail was a built-up area between two parts of the marsh. I think it used to be a dyke but now it's more like a road or trail. There was lots of foliage in the area and we saw several birds. We also saw a couple fishing off the trail into the marsh. As we watched, the man caught a fish. He reeled it in and it was quite a big fish and it was really flat. It was very funny looking!

We also tried out a new restaurant on Saturday after our temple shift, called the Palladium, which serves seafood and Greek food. Fred got their fish and chips and I had shrimp souvlaki with lemon potatoes. They were both very good!

We are really enjoying our mission in this area and love working at the Temple. If you would like to watch a church-produced video about temples, please click on the link below.
