Halifax Mission Week 3, July 16 - July 22, 2017

Halifax Mission Week Three

Sunday, July 16 to Saturday, July 22, 2017

This week was a very full week filled with rich experiences.
The Sabbath day is always great because we are able to go to church, partake of the Sacrament to renew our covenants, and then to participate in the lessons of the day. We had one young woman (YSA age) named Robin who connected with us at church and we attended the meetings with her throughout the day. It felt like we were meant to connect with her and we enjoyed our spiritual experiences together. The young missionary Elders also did not have a place to go for supper so we invited them over. We told them we just had left-overs but they did not have another option so they graciously accepted. We came home and Kathy was able to put together a great supper and it seemed like the miracle of the Loaves and Fishes as there was plenty of food, even for two big eating Elders. And it wasn’t even left-overs!

We have a weekly routine of cleaning and preparation, and also of calling or FaceTiming some of our family each week. In addition to that, on Tuesday we were able to go on the Ferry over the harbour to Halifax and visit the Citadel. We were able to explore the history of the Citadel and the area, watch the RCMP musical ride to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, and enjoy the beauties of this area. When we went over to Halifax, we met a couple from our apartment building there and we spent the afternoon with them. We then went out for dinner with them in the evening.

On Wednesday, we were invited to our Bishop’s house for dinner. His wife was in Palmyra at the Hill Cumorah Pageant with the youth from our ward, but his mother was there helping him take care of their children and she cooked a wonderful dinner. It turned out that the Bishop had spent a couple of years living in Alberta and was room-mates with Ben Harker when he went to school in Edmonton. It is a small world!

This week was a busy week at the temple, simplifying and streamlining the temple shift structures and organizing the shifts so that all could flow as it should in the temple. On Saturday, we had two people coming to the temple for their first times and a Bride and Groom coming to be married and sealed in the templeAll three were scheduled to occur at 1:30 pm. We had to prepare all the paperwork for these wonderful events, so there was lots to figure out and lots to learn. (There isn’t really anyone at the temple to teach us as the other couple who were doing our jobs have already gone home.) We rely on the Spirit to inspire us, read the manual,  and have faith that Heavenly Father will help us to do things correctly and then we do the best we can!

This week was our first opportunity to go through a session in the Halifax Temple and it was wonderful. It is so nice to remember why all the paper work that we do is important! We are enjoying our mission and all the time that we are able to spend together. Sometimes the office work is a little overwhelming, but we help each other and we manage to do all that we need to! People here are so friendly and kind wherever we are, whether it is at the temple, at church, or in our apartment building and we are enjoying this opportunity to serve!

It is interesting to see just how much more simplified we can live when we are both fully engaged in the work of the Lord and this is a great learning experience for us and we are thoroughly enjoying it.

We are going to try and add a short video clip (or a link or URL address to one) each week if we can. We will put on a variety that we think that you will enjoy and appreciate. Please let us know of your thoughts as you view and listen to them.
